Why So Desperate???
My inspiration behind writing this article is my depression caused by seeing how desperate students of my college are regarding getting a placement. If this continues I won’t be shocked if next GD topic is: - “Should
No-Placement be made a crime worth of Capital Punishment?”.
No-Placement be made a crime worth of Capital Punishment?”.
Let me take a moment to clarify that I am not against people wanting to get a good and high paying job. But I am against the kind of attitude which says “If the paycheck is large enough I don’t care what they are going to make me do(remember prostitution)” or “Just any job in, any company we do”.
Money should be earned to have a great life but a great life shouldn't be wasted earning money.
I would have understood (though not really) if these statement would have come from an Arts student from a local college, but come on guys we are Engineering students, at least have some proud in yourself for that if nothing else. Engineer’s are supposed to be logical and rationale people. Engineer’s are people who are never satisfied by what is given to them whether it is a simple gadget like a cell phone or ipod, a software for listening to music or an IC engine.
Engineer’s are the eternal tinkerer’s, always trying to get more out of the machines, resources and world around them. We are the people whose parents complained about breaking a newly bought RC –plane to just see what makes it fly. We are the people who always got into trouble in childhood for causing a fire in Chemistry lab or breaking the password of old bozos who thought “1234” was secure enough, just out of a curiosity that if it could be done or not.
In childhood curiosity and passion overtook the feeling of “What people would think about us?” Why are you letting that passion die in yourself? Why are you burying that rebellious spirit under the dirt created by rat-race?
The world wants you to get on to your knees and suck on its shit. That’s why it embeds the insecurities like “No Job- No Pay-No Home-No Respect-No Girl” in your minds. But what world actually needs is people who have a thought process of their own, ability to take a stand and willingness to take the heat when their plans go wrong.
All I am asking of you is to look just for a moment beyond that glittering paycheck and ask yourself for a minute the following questions:-
What do they want me to do?
Will I be happy doing that job for rest of my life?
What am I really passionate about?
Won’t following my own passion, would be worth a try (it’s the only life I have got)?
Then decide for yourself.
